Ed Fordham, Parliamentary campaigner for Hampstead and Kilburn Liberal Democrats has warned that figures on the feared recession could see over 5,000 local people directly affected by the credit crunch and particular job instability.
A report just out confirms that 370,000 jobs could be lost in London and with 74 parliamentary constituencies that equates to a very straightforward 5,000 people directly affected.
"It was rather startling last week to hear our Labour MP, who doesn't live here, talking about us pulling through the recession by nature of our spirit and stiff upper lip. Frankly that's almost laughbale and shows no understanding of either the economy, the consituency, nor of local residents.

Following a planning decision in August, a new Tesco Express on Belsize Road will open in January 2009. Kilburn Liberal Democrat Councillor Janet Grauberg worked with residents to campaign successfully for changes to the look of the store and to reduce the traffic impact by making sure Tesco use small delivery lorries.
Restrictions on Alcohol Sales
On 5 November Janet joined residents at a Licensing hearing to speak against Tesco's application to sell alcohol from 7am to 11pm. Many residents had contacted her about concerns about street drinking and anti-social behaviour in the area, particularly early in the morning and late at night. As a result, the alcohol sales will be restricted to 10am to 10pm. Thanks to everyone who commented on the planning and licensing applications - they really made a difference.

It really really is a two horse race here in Hampstead and Kilburn
On Thursday 25th September 2008 and the voters of Hampstead and South End Green rejected the Camden Tory party and opted instead for the local Liberal Democrats.
In a slightly scary character assassination of their own candidate the Tories have said that it was a ‘personality’ election and that’s why the Liberal Democrats won. Sure, Linda Chung was an exceptionally strong candidate, but she was quite clearly standing as part of the Lib Dem team and was the candidate in 2006. |
