Local campaigner Ed Fordham says "The closure is a serious body blow to residents, to Kilburn. It brings to an end a proud history of over 100 years of education locally in Kilburn. The decision - which appears to be signed and sealed without any consultation - comes after £4.2million of public money was invested in 2006 in the new building on Priory Park Road. "The decision to close feels like totally the wrong decision, feels like our local College has been asset stripped after the Glengall Road site was sold, then let down by the Labour Government and by the discredited Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and now we local people are feeling the direct pain." Sarah Teather, local MP, said: "The same Labour government that were full of self-congratulation when the Kilburn campus opened are now directly responsible for its closure. By ripping up their promise to invest, Labour have derailed the college's finances at the worst possible time. Huge numbers of young people in Brent are out of work and this news is a body blow to their hopes of learning a trade and getting a job. "I will be writing to the Higher Education Minister and taking this fight directly to the Labour government. Ministers need to come to Brent and explain themselves." |

Kilburn residents in Camden and Brent will be stunned to hear that Labour's cuts in further education funding are so severe that the College of North West London is closing its Kilburn campus in Priory Park Road.
